Children are quite curious, inquisitive creatures. Not a second goes by without them trying to “taste the fruit forbidden by their parents.” And sometimes this insatiable curiosity leads to everyday injuries: sometimes mild and harmless, and sometimes serious and terrible. But doors are especially dangerous for children - in modern houses and apartments they are everywhere: between rooms, in chests of drawers, wardrobes, cabinets, etc. Moreover, the following pattern can be traced: the door closes when the child puts his finger or hand into it. And if it so happens that a child pinches his finger in a door, parents must clearly understand what to do in this situation in order to provide high-quality and timely first aid.
What can and cannot be done?
Since a finger that is pinched is very painful, all actions are aimed specifically at eliminating the pain syndrome. In this situation use:
- Ice compresses.
- Painkillers.
- Warming up.
That is, everything that can help relieve pain. But you can’t do everything indiscriminately, because the condition can only worsen, and the inflammatory processes will not decrease. For example, it is impossible to heat the area immediately after receiving an injury, and taking painkillers, a person blurs the picture that will appear before the doctor if there is a fracture. That is why self-medication should be reasonable and careful.
If the injury is not very severe, it will reveal itself as swelling and bruising at the site of the injury. But sometimes even a fracture or crack in a bone manifests itself this way. If there are doubts about the diagnosis, it is better to go to the emergency room to clarify the situation.
Often the most serious manifestations are observed when fingers are pinched in a car door, but in other cases the tissue of the finger can be severely damaged. In such a stressful situation, it is important to know how to act.
Folk recipes
If a girl pinches her finger in a car door, how can she relieve the pain at home? You can use time-tested, effective folk remedies to treat a bruise.
More details about these recipes are given below:
- pick the plantain and wash it. Mash the plantain leaf thoroughly until you obtain a paste, and most importantly, juice. Apply plantain juice to the sore spot. If there is no plantain nearby, you can apply a cabbage leaf or a cut half of aloe as a compress. After 3 hours, change the compress. If you pinch your finger, the swelling and pain will quickly go away, but if the limb is fractured, this recipe will most likely be useless.
- Wrap the mashed potatoes in a gauze napkin and apply it to your finger until the mixture has cooled completely. Such procedures must be performed every 2 hours.
- generously lubricate the painful finger with fresh sour cream, keep it in this state for 10-15 minutes. Such pleasant procedures should be repeated until the pain subsides and swelling decreases.
- make the following compress: pour 1 glass of boiling water, 1 teaspoon of birch buds and 2 teaspoons of horsetail, leave the composition to brew. Then soak a gauze pad in this infusion and apply it to the painful area, securing it with a bandage. Apply such compresses twice a day until the unpleasant symptoms completely go away.
If you don’t have these medicines at hand, you can use the following traditional medicine recipe.
To quickly ripen the abscess, use this method:
- The onion needs to be baked and grated on a fine grater.
- Also grate laundry soap on a fine grater.
- Mix 2 tablespoons of grated onion with 1 tablespoon of grated soap.
- Apply the mixture to the abscess and cover with a clean bandage.
- Renew the compress every 4 hours.
Fracture or bruise?
Only a doctor can say exactly what the result of pinching is after taking an x-ray. But any person also needs to know how to identify injury and bruise based on certain signs.
In any case, there will be severe pain. Moreover, this does not depend on whether a finger on the hand was injured or the person hit the door frame with his toes. Any such injury causes a painful shock.
When the first bright and very unpleasant sensations pass, the person realizes what happened. A picturesque bruise appears on the finger and swelling may increase. This occurs due to an increase in local pressure. A bruise is the result of damaged blood vessels on the finger.
First of all, you need to understand what type of lesion is present, this can be done by the following signs:
- You can move your finger, if you can do this, even despite severe pain, there is most likely no fracture.
- If, despite any attempts, the finger still does not move, and attempts to bend it cause unbearable pain, then most likely a fracture has occurred.
You need to handle a fracture with extreme caution so as not to aggravate the situation. To do this, the injured finger must be immobilized. This can be done at home by putting a splint on it. After this, immediately go to the doctor.
The importance of medical assistance in case of a fracture of even a finger is very important, because the bones may heal incorrectly, and this will lead to a decrease in the mobility of the phalanx, and a visual deformation may form.
How to provide psychological assistance to a child?
Of course, not every parent can adequately respond to the trauma of their own child. But emotions are the worst helper in such situations. Therefore, remain calm if your child manages to crush his finger under the door.
- Calm the baby down - hug, kiss, have pity.
- Do not shout or scold him for his carelessness and inattention.
- Explain that sometimes this happens not only to him, but also to other children and adults.
- Distract your baby with your favorite cartoon, game, or reading children's literature.
- Praise your child for his patience, courage, and perseverance.
- Show how every door, every bedside table, every cabinet opens in your house. How to close them correctly so as not to crush your fingers.
- Do not forbid your child to open/close doors - this will stir up even greater interest in prohibited actions and objects.
Treat your child with understanding. No matter how hard you try, you will not be able to avoid injuring your baby, because children by nature are inquisitive researchers. All you can do is minimize the chances of injury (for example, install special door stops or lock cabinet doors) and be prepared for such situations. And, of course, talk to your child, discuss possible dangers, comment on his actions, teach him to assess the situation in advance. This is the only way you can protect your baby from many troubles.

I pinched my finger. First aid, elimination of hematoma under the nail
According to statistics, our nails and the soft tissues around them most often suffer from incorrectly performed hygienic manicure or abuse of decorative cosmetics. But we experience the most painful sensations and unpleasant consequences for the nail phalanges as a result of mechanical injuries, including household injuries, when the nail turns blue from a severe bruise or the soft tissues near the nail plate swell after a finger is pinched. If you pinch your finger tightly in a door, swelling appears on the injured finger, and a hematoma forms under the nail from internal hemorrhage into the soft tissue of the nail bed, which turns blue or even blackens after a while. What should you do first after you have pinched a nail and are experiencing acute, growing pain?
First, we must relieve pain in the finger as soon as possible using cold compresses or lotions. It is ideal if you can immediately take ice cubes from the freezer, crush them and make a cold compress from a piece of gauze bandage folded several times. If the throbbing pain under the nail pinched by the door continues to bother you, you can take a painkiller tablet (Ibuprofen, Paracetamol, Diclofenac). It happens that the nail is pinched very slightly; the injury is accompanied by mild swelling and a small hematoma in the form of a dark spot under the nail plate. But some injuries to the nail phalanx can lead to a fracture, and if the tip of the finger under the nail is completely blue, very painful and swollen, then be sure to make an appointment with a traumatologist! ♦ SIGNS OF A FRACTURE OF THE NAIL PHALANGE AND A USUAL CONUSION AFTER PINCHING ► Typical symptoms of a contusion of the tip of a finger: ❶ A sharp dull pain quickly turns into a throbbing pain with a tendency to subside; ❷ For a short time after pinching a finger, hyperthermia of the soft tissues in the nail area is observed, when the epidermis turns red and the tip of the phalanx noticeably heats up; ❸ The pinched nail phalanx gradually swells as fluid accumulates in the soft tissues of the injured fingertip. But mild swelling does not make it difficult to bend or straighten the injured finger; ❹ In most cases, a damaged nail loses its natural shine and transparency, and a dark red spot appears on the surface of the nail bed visible through the thickness of the plate, which may turn blue over time. Most often, a bluish tint to the hematoma appears after 8-10 hours, and the hematoma resolves 4-6 weeks after the nail is pinched. ► Symptoms indicating a fracture of the nail phalanx: ❶ The nail phalanx is very swollen and even after applying an ice compress, the swelling does not decrease, but continues to visually expand; ❷ The color of the skin around the nail changes noticeably and the epidermis gradually turns crimson. The nail bed becomes dark red along the entire perimeter of the plate, and over time it turns blue and even blackens; ❸ After the nail phalanx is pinched by a door, the piercing pain in the finger is replaced by wave-like aching pain and does not subside even after using an ice compress or ointment with an anesthetic; ❹ It is difficult to perform any movements with the damaged finger; the nail phalanx does not bend completely. Against the background of difficult movement of the phalanx in the joint, abnormal mobility of the fingertip is observed. Upon careful examination of the finger, you can notice deformation of the injured phalanx; ❺ After severe hemorrhage into the soft tissues of the nail bed, nail rejection may occur. If the matrix is damaged as a result of injury, the nail plate grows back deformed.
— hematoma under a pinched fingernail ♦ WHAT TO DO IF THE NAIL PHALANX IS DAMAGED • First aid. Having pinched the nail phalanx, first of all you will need to relieve the acute pain and for this you need to cool the soft tissues of the finger as soon as possible so that the blood vessels narrow. Open the cold water tap, place a clean container under the stream and dip your injured finger into it (do not turn off the tap and wait until the ice water comes out). After soothing the acute pain with ice water, make a cold compress using gauze and pieces of ice from the freezer. Secure the compress on your finger and remove it after 15 minutes; If an open wound appears on your finger after an injury, treat it with hydrogen peroxide (or other antiseptic) and an alcohol solution of iodine (or brilliant green). To stop the bleeding, apply a pressure bandage made of a clean gauze bandage to the phalanx; • Visit to the emergency room. If the pinched finger is noticeably swollen and a large hematoma appears under the nail, be sure to visit a traumatologist. In addition to a fracture of the nail phalanx, a large volume of blood can collect in the soft tissues of the finger and only a specialist should release it out in the sterile conditions of an emergency room. Using disinfected instruments, the doctor makes a small incision on the finger and cleans the soft tissue from accumulated blood; • Riciniol emulsion. It is useful to treat the injured finger with this remedy 2-3 times a day until the swelling and blue hematoma under the nail are completely eliminated. Riciniol helps to quickly stop bleeding from an open wound, has an analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect, relieves swelling and accelerates the process of restoration of damaged tissues; • Ointments (gels) for severe bruises. Gels such as 'Voltaren', 'Fenistil', 'Diclofenac', 'Traumel', 'Fastumgel' soothe pain and successfully resolve hematomas on soft tissues. To prevent complications, it is useful to apply an application of Heparin ointment to the damaged phalanx 3 times a day. Heparin ointment has antithrombotic and local analgesic effects, promotes the resorption of hematomas; • Compress with Dimexide. The procedures relieve swelling, accelerate the healing of damaged tissues and restore their structure after a pinched nail. Mix a solution of Dimexide with novocaine 0.25% in a ratio of 1:3, dip a gauze swab into the solution, apply the swab to the injured finger, wrap the finger in plastic wrap and secure with a bandage. Keep the bandage on your finger for 30 minutes before going to bed every day; • Ointments for drawing out pus. A pyogenic infection can penetrate into an open wound of a damaged nail phalanx and an abscess appears near the nail. If treatment for paronychia is not started in time, then pus begins to spread from the soft tissues of the cushion under the nail plate and without the intervention of a surgeon it will be very difficult to get rid of the suppuration. Therefore, be sure to treat a purulent abscess with a special ointment that draws out pus and has an antibacterial effect on the deep layers of soft tissue. The most effective means for drawing out pus include: Levomekol, Synthomycin liniment, Vishnevsky ointment, Tetracycline ointment, Ichthyol ointment.

How does this happen
Every year, 830 thousand children die due to accidental injury worldwide. Half of the cases in our country, according to Rosstat, are domestic injuries, 34% are street injuries. In boys, injuries occur more often and the consequences are more serious. This is usually associated with higher levels of activity and social approval, and parents are less likely to restrict their exploratory activities. Most children's injuries are superficial, about 15% are dislocations and fractures of the arms and a very small part are fractures of the legs and head.
In the first place for reasons is parental neglect. When it seems that nothing will happen to the child or adults have underestimated the danger of the situation. This is confirmed by our experts.
“Children’s injuries and their prevention are a serious problem,” says pediatric orthopedic traumatologist and surgeon at the Fantasy clinic Ilya Zelenkin, “especially during school holidays, when children have more free time, are more often on the street and are left without adult supervision . Despite the wide variety of injuries in children, the causes that cause them are typical. First of all, this is a poor environment, neglect of adults, careless, incorrect behavior of a child at home, on the street, during games, and sports. The occurrence of injuries is also facilitated by the psychological characteristics of children: curiosity, great mobility, emotionality, lack of life experience, and hence the lack of a sense of danger.”
In infancy, falls from a bed or changing table most often occur; in second place is the “shaken baby” syndrome, when a parent who has lost self-control shakes the child while crying loudly. In both cases, the main danger is damage to the brain and neck.
When a child begins to crawl, he often injures his fingers. To avoid this, you need stoppers in the doors and protection on the drawers. Once a child begins to learn to stand up, head bruises from unsuccessful attempts and minor injuries from meeting the outside world are added.
As soon as a child begins to walk, he can reach dangerous objects, so after a year, children can swallow adult pills, household chemicals, or climb on a cabinet. Burns are also common.
An older child is more likely to collide with other children on the slide or fall off the carousel on the playground. Also, many people get scooters and balance bikes, so the child should immediately be taught to ride with a helmet and knee protection.
At school age, the incidence of injuries decreases, children develop a sense of danger and the necessary knowledge about the world, which allows the child to avoid injury. But at the same time, the child often has faster transport: hoverboards, mopeds and roller skates, which without protection can seriously injure a teenager.
Symptoms of a fracture
Now, in more detail about the symptoms of a fracture, among them:
- At the site of impact, the skin will change color.
- There will be an aching wave-like pain that does not subside, but increases.
- There will be serious problems with finger mobility.
- The phalanx may be abnormally mobile, which is not typical for it.
- Unnatural position of the finger on the hand.
- The swelling will continue to grow despite applying cold to it.
- Exacerbation of pain with a certain frequency.
Prevention measures
Unfortunately, today the rules and safety measures in sports clubs, schools, and fitness complexes are not given due attention, so concern for the safety of one’s health lies entirely with each person personally. It is best to take care of personal protective equipment yourself when playing sports - wear special non-slip shoes, comfortable clothes, and do not use unnecessary objects on your fingers during training.
As a self-education, it would not be a bad idea to obtain information about what types of first aid for sprains exist.

1.General information
Surgery today is known to work miracles. However, the best of surgeons have always been distinguished by this, but modern surgery, armed with the principles of antiseptics, high technology and wise recommendations of the WHO, often actually demonstrates amazing operations that were completely impossible until recently.
Traumatic amputation of fingers and limbs has been a pressing problem for medicine since its inception (given the restless nature of humanity as a patient). It has not been possible to sew back something that has been torn off, bitten off, cut off, or chopped off for thousands of years, since such restoration requires clear ideas about what infection and necrosis are, what blood vessels and nerves are, what immunity is, and what the regenerative capabilities of a particular other fabric. In addition, it is advisable to have a good operating microscope. But today we have come close to the issue of head transplantation, and this issue is being discussed not in a science-fiction manner, but in a calm technological and methodological manner, as always happened before the development and implementation of any new technique in everyday practice.
As for the return of severed fingers to their original position, this will not surprise anyone for a long time: even schoolchildren know what to do and where to run in such a situation. Meanwhile, this microsurgical operation, and even with the task of at least partial restoration of motor function, is only slightly less “fantastic” in essence and complexity. Paradoxically, replanting an entire hand is easier than replanting one finger, and a toe is easier than replanting part of a foot. However, it is generally inappropriate to talk about any “simplicity” here.
The history of such operations goes back only a little more than half a century, but today finger replantations are performed all over the world, techniques continue to be improved, and the proportion of successful engraftments ranges (according to various data and depending on a number of indicators) from 65% to 90%.

What to do if your finger is pinched?
The success of treatment depends on how correct the first actions are; important measures of assistance include:
- The finger needs to be cooled. A container of cold water, running tap water, any frozen product, or ice is suitable for this. You can even soak a towel in cold water and wrap it around your finger. This compress should be kept for no more than 10 minutes.
- After cold applications, you can lubricate the damaged finger with one of the following ointments: Fenistil, Diclofenac, Traumeel, Voltaren, Fastumgel.
- After absorption, apply a bandage of sterile soft bandage.
- If the pain is very intense, then you can take a painkiller, for example: “Ketanov”, “Nalgesin”, Nimesil”, “Nise”.
- If there is an increase in temperature, you should consult a doctor, as this indicates an inflammatory process in the body.
Damage cannot be heated. This applies to both products with a warming effect (ointments) and thermal compresses. In this case, suppuration may develop, and inflammation will spread throughout the body. You can heat the inflamed area only during the rehabilitation process, that is, at least 3-4 days after the injury.
Drug treatment
In some cases, it will not be enough to just apply antiseptics and cold to the pinched finger.
We suggest you read: Itchy toes
In order to relieve pain and prevent severe inflammation, you should take a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug.
Among these drugs, the following have excellent effectiveness:
- Aspirin;
- Naproxen;
- Ibuprofen.
These drugs must be used strictly following the instructions. Remember that anti-inflammatory medications should not be used for more than 2 weeks; moreover, they have a number of contraindications.
Since both adults and children are capable of pinching fingers, the selection of the drug should be carried out together with a doctor.
If you don't have anti-inflammatory drugs on hand, a pain reliever, such as Acetaminophen, can help relieve severe pain. This drug can eliminate pain instantly, but it can have a negative effect on the functioning of the liver and kidneys.
Acetaminophen should only be taken after meals. In some cases, painkillers are addictive, which means the dosage must be strictly followed according to the instructions.
A good alternative to tablets are topical preparations, that is, gels and ointments with analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.
Among these remedies, local anesthetic gels and ointments for bruises have proven themselves to be excellent:
- Anestezin;
- Lidocaine;
- Prilocaine;
- Chloroethyl.
The following creams will help relieve swelling:
- Venoruton;
- Troxevasin;
- Heparin ointment;
- Heparoid;
- Hepatrombin;
- Troxerutin;
- Lyoton 1000.
Creams that will help improve blood microcirculation in the injured limb:
- Actovegin;
- Solcoseryl;
- Indovazin.
Effective anti-inflammatory creams:
- Apizartron;
- Butadion;
- Ben is gay;
- Voltaren;
- Viprosal;
- Vipratox;
- Virapin.
If there are wounds on the skin, the following drugs have excellent healing properties:
- Actovegin;
- Iruksol;
- Propolis;
- Solcoseryl;
- Zinc paste;
- Panthenol.
It is imperative to re-read the instructions before use and consult a doctor as soon as possible. If side effects develop or your health worsens, you should stop taking the medicine.
So, in order to avoid the unpleasant sensation of pinching a finger, you must always try to follow safety precautions and, if possible, take your time.
If this happens, the main thing is not to panic. Get medical attention and follow all doctor's recommendations.

Sometimes, as a result of a bruise, the nail plate is also injured. Because of this, small cracks and chips appear, which become inflamed and can fester. Taking into account the fact that the nail plate loses its protective powers after an impact, any infection can penetrate into the cracks and cause purulent abscesses, even blood poisoning.
If the symptoms only intensify after the above measures, it is necessary to consult a therapist, who will probably send the patient for an X-ray examination and an appointment with a traumatologist.
There are a number of cases when you will need to set a dislocated joint. It is not recommended to do this on your own, unless the person himself is a traumatologist or osteopath. During the procedure, you can hear a characteristic crunching sound, but this procedure is quite tolerable and the person will not feel severe pain.
2. Reasons
Traumatic amputation of a finger today can occur for a variety of reasons: combat, terrorist attacks, transport accidents and industrial accidents. Among purely peaceful everyday causes, the leading cause is careless handling or (much less often) breakdown of various mechanisms and tools, especially high-speed electromechanical equipment. However, sometimes partial or even complete amputation of the finger phalanges also happens in an ordinary kitchen - if the household has well-sharpened cutting knives and hatchets.
Of course, the most dramatic (and difficult from a surgical and rehabilitation point of view) situation is created when fingers are damaged in children - as a result of pranks or a simple misunderstanding of the possible consequences. All responsibility here, in fact, lies with adults: cutting, stabbing, chopping, rotating objects should be completely inaccessible to a small child, and explained to older children and absolutely understandable in terms of purpose, mechanism of action and especially safety precautions.
