Treatment of gout with baking soda: the essence of the method, indications and contraindications

Does baking soda help with gout?

Soda produces the optimal effect if soda treatment is carried out at the initial stage of gout progression in minimal doses - 1/5 teaspoon

Soda is a unique remedy that can improve the patient’s condition in a number of serious diseases. The high effectiveness of the product is based on the ability to normalize the acid-base balance of the body.

When fighting gout, soda allows you to achieve the following effects:

  • cleansing the body;
  • antiseptic effect;
  • dissolving salt crystals accumulated in joints;
  • rapid removal of deposits from joints;
  • decrease in uric acid levels in the blood.

Due to its alkalizing effect, soda is successfully used in the treatment of gout, as well as a number of other diseases that create a pathologically acidic environment in the body. As a result of taking this drug, the patient’s well-being significantly improves, which is observed from the very first days of therapy.

With the systematic use of baking soda for gout, the following effects can be achieved:

  • decrease in the level of uric acid in the blood;
  • normalization of metabolic processes in the body;
  • reduction in the frequency and duration of painful attacks;
  • normalization of connective tissue properties;
  • disappearance of lumps formed on the joints;
  • relieving swelling and inflammation.

The most noticeable effect of taking soda is present in the initial stages of gout development. In the last stages of the disease, the use of sodium bicarbonate is most often unsuccessful.

Indications for use

Despite the fact that soda for gout is taken as part of traditional medicine, the benefits of this remedy have been scientifically confirmed. Many doctors recommend their patients to use recipes based on it to treat the disease in the early stages and during remission.

Before starting treatment for gout with soda, the patient should undergo a thorough diagnosis, on the basis of which the doctor will be able to select an individual course of therapy for him. Most often it is used as a supplement to medications, enhancing their effectiveness and helping to combat the symptoms of the disease.

Sodium bicarbonate for gout is used in the following cases:

  1. If the level of uric acid in the patient's blood is significantly elevated.
  2. The patient suffers from severe pressing pain.
  3. Swelling of the joints with their redness and the occurrence of an inflammatory process.
  4. Growths appear on the toes, knees, fingers, elbows or wrists.
  5. There is significant discomfort in the joints.

Baking soda by itself cannot cure joint diseases. If we are talking about the development of a dystrophic or degenerative process, then taking soda-based remedies for gout will only alleviate the person’s general condition.

Contraindications

Pregnant gout sufferers should not use baking soda.

Despite the fact that society has an opinion that soda is harmless, it has a number of contraindications. These include:

  • individual intolerance;
  • allergy;
  • gastritis with low or high acidity;
  • pregnancy and breastfeeding;
  • diabetes;
  • ulcer.

Patients with high stomach acidity should take soda with extreme caution. Initially, it is able to relieve heartburn, but over time it will only create discomfort, ultimately causing complications in the form of perforations, ulcers and erosions.

With prolonged use of soda and various overdoses, irritation of the mucous membranes and nausea may occur. If there is a lack of fluid in the patient's body, then sodium bicarbonate can lead to the formation of edema.

Instructions for use

The basis for effective treatment is a well-prepared soda recipe for gout. At the moment, the following means can be made on its basis:

  • baths and tubs;
  • compresses;
  • ointments.

You can also take soda orally, as will be discussed below.

Soda and salt bath

The effectiveness of such baths is based on the rapid removal of uric acid from the body. As a result, the circulatory system is cleansed and the patient begins to feel better.

To prepare a bath you need the following ingredients:

  • sea or rock salt – 500 g;
  • baking soda – 500 g.

This mixture should be filled with water in a warm bath. You should be immersed in water slowly, and the bath time is half an hour. It is better to start with short sessions (10 minutes each), gradually increasing them. After finishing the procedure, you need to dry yourself with a towel and wrap yourself in a warm blanket.

The bath is taken at night, and after it it is advisable to go to bed. Experts recommend performing the procedure every other day or two. The standard course of treatment is 10 procedures, after which it is necessary to take a two-month break.

Initially, you should not make the water in the bath too hot. A temperature of 37 degrees will be quite enough. This is necessary so that the body has time to get used to the intense effects of soda. The temperature gradually rises to 39-40 degrees, as the effect of soda is enhanced in hot water.

Iodine bath

It is more convenient to do baths with iodine in the evening, before bedtime; the bones steamed after the procedure will need warmth and rest, so a warm bed after the bath will further enhance the healing effect

This product reduces salt build-up and reduces the inflammatory process. This ensures its high effectiveness in the treatment of gout. To prepare the product you will need the following:

  • 4 teaspoons of soda;
  • 3 liters of water;
  • 9 drops of iodine.

It is necessary to keep your feet in a warm bath for 10-15 minutes. Then they are wiped dry and warm woolen socks are put on them. This procedure is performed before bedtime. The course of treatment is 2 weeks.

Ointment based on soda, oil, laundry soap and kerosene

Provided proper preparation and use of the ointment, rapid resorption of growths can be achieved. It helps reduce inflammation and reduce nodes. To prepare the product, you need the following:

  • a quarter cup of sunflower oil;
  • half a tablespoon of soda;
  • a quarter of a piece of laundry soap;
  • a quarter glass of kerosene.

To prepare the cream, you can use any vegetable oil. But it is believed that it is sunflower that provides effective relief from irritation.

The product is prepared as follows:

  1. Laundry soap is grated.
  2. Other components are added to it.
  3. The mass is mixed to a homogeneous consistency, in which there should be no lumps.
  4. Cover the resulting product with a lid and send it to a cold and dark place for three days.

The finished ointment should be applied to the inflamed joint in a thick layer. Then you should apply a bandage to the affected area. To increase efficiency, it is recommended to wear warm socks.

Compress with iodine

The combination of soda and iodine helps improve blood circulation in affected tissues. Thus, uric acid is quickly eliminated from the body.

This method is often used as first aid for exacerbation of gout. It is also used for prophylaxis during remission. To prepare a compress, you need to use the following ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon of soda;
  • 10 ml iodine;
  • 5 aspirin tablets.

Aspirin in this case can significantly increase the effectiveness of the drug.

The mixture is considered ready when the iodine loses its color. Then you should apply the resulting mass to the joints and secure it with a bandage. Feet should be kept warm by wearing wool socks.

Oral use according to the Neumyvakin method

It is better to take baking soda in the morning before meals, in which case the effectiveness of soda increases

Professor Neumyvakin has developed a unique method for treating a number of serious diseases with soda. When this drug is taken orally, the acid-base balance is regulated, which leads to a decrease in the amount of uric acid.

To obtain truly good treatment results, it is not enough to drink soda several times a day - you must adhere to a certain scheme developed by the professor:

  1. Soda should be dissolved in milk or water, consumed in this form 3-5 times a day.
  2. You should start with small doses. Initially, taking a quarter teaspoon dissolved in a glass of water is enough.
  3. It is necessary to gradually increase the concentration of soda. For this, Professor Neumyvakin proposed the following scheme: for the first three days, take a quarter of a spoon, then for another three days, take half a spoon, after which you can double the dosage.
  4. After drinking the product for 9 days, you can take a three-day break.
  5. The solution should be taken a quarter of an hour before meals and two hours after.
  6. Pour the soda in half a glass of boiling water, then add cold water. This approach allows you to evoke a characteristic reaction.
  7. It is recommended to take the product on an empty stomach in the morning, since in this case the effectiveness of soda increases significantly.

Ointment recipe

For those people who are contraindicated in taking soda orally, it is recommended to use recipes for external influence. When sick, soda is used in the following ways:

  • Ointment;
  • Healing compresses;
  • Therapeutic baths.

To organize treatment, you will need to prepare a mixture of honey, mustard, and sodium bicarbonate. Take all products in equal proportions. Mix all the ingredients of the ointment, spread gauze, then apply it to the affected area. Before the procedure, it is recommended to steam the formation with hot water. Then fix the medicine with cling film and insulate it. Perform the procedure before bedtime. Treatment is carried out for a couple of weeks.

There is another option for using soda. Prepare ointment from 1 tbsp. l. sodium bicarbonate, 10 g of crushed laundry soap, as well as 50 g of sunflower oil. Mix all ingredients well. Use the mixture after a few days, which it should be kept in the dark. Leave for half an hour and remove the bandage. The duration of the course is about a month.

Some healers offer a more complex version of preparing a healing potion. However, it is the most effective. To defeat gout, you need to take a bottle of medical bile, 3 tbsp. l. soda and a similar amount of ground pepper (certainly red), 100 ml of plantain juice.

The mixture must be left for 14 days in a glass container, removed from direct sunlight. Then use the ointment in this way: apply it overnight, repeating the procedure for 10 days in a row. After waiting several months, it is advisable to repeat the manipulations.

What to do if baking soda doesn't work?

There are times when the described soda-based products do not give the expected effect. This can happen in the following situations:

  1. The product was prepared incorrectly. When preparing medicine for gout, you must strictly follow the instructions. Otherwise, taking such a remedy will be ineffective.
  2. The disease is in an advanced form, and soda is not able to affect it. In this case, professional treatment is required.

It should be understood that treatment of gout with baking soda is possible only as an accompanying therapy. Soda itself can only improve the patient’s overall well-being without eliminating the original disease.
