What is osteochondrosis
This disease affects the intervertebral discs and is accompanied by severe pain. Often people with this diagnosis subsequently become disabled.
This is all due to lack of mobility and characteristics of professional activity. If a person sits for a long time, the load on the muscles of the back and neck increases. The spine suffers primarily from this.
Osteochondrosis is a rather complex disease and the treatment process must contain a set of measures of medication, rehabilitation and preventive treatment. Therefore, treatment of back osteochondrosis should be started as quickly as possible.
The doctor must individually find answers to basic questions for a particular patient:
- What are the causes of the development of osteochondrosis?
- What changes in the spine and in the body as a whole did this condition lead to?
- What research methods should be used in this particular case?
And the most important point is rehabilitation for osteochondrosis. The degree of recovery of the body after an illness depends on well-designed rehabilitation measures.
Technique for performing Bubnovsky gymnastics for cervical osteochondrosis
Did you know that...
Next fact
Dr. Bubnovsky’s gymnastics does not require specific training.
To increase the effectiveness of exercises, you need to pay attention to the following recommendations:
(you can stretch your neck with your hands or make gentle tilts of your head back and forth, left and right).
Pay attention to the recommendations for performing gymnastics for cervical osteochondrosis. Before each lesson, you should warm up the muscles and joints of the cervical spine.- Before a set of exercises you should take a shower . This will relax the neck muscles, improve blood flow, and speed up tissue regeneration processes. Please note: for intervertebral hernias, the water should not be too hot.
- You need to end the session with light stretching , which will help avoid pain the next day. It is good if the patient has the opportunity to visit the pool after doing the exercises: this can be very useful, especially if there are intervertebral hernias.
- For osteochondrosis of the cervical spine, it is recommended to walk in the fresh air . Walking enriches inflamed tissues with oxygen, which speeds up the healing process.
Below is a set of seven exercises that can be performed for cervical osteochondrosis . You can exercise anywhere, incl. at home: the exercises are quite simple to perform and do not require special equipment.
Exercise name | Initial position | Execution technique |
1. Spring | Stand straight facing the mirror, look straight ahead, lower your arms along your body | Lower your head down and hold it in this position for several seconds. Lift your chin up and slightly extend it forward. Maintain this position for several seconds, return to IP. |
2. Metronome | Same as in the previous exercise | Tilt your head towards your left shoulder and maintain the position for 30 seconds. Return to starting position. Repeat the exercise from the beginning, tilting your head towards your right shoulder. Do at least 6 inclines. |
3. Review | Same as in previous exercises | Turn your head to the right (as far as you can), fix the position for a few seconds. Return to IP. Do the same steps, but for the other side. Make at least 3 turns in each direction. |
4. Goose | Stand up straight, look straight ahead, place your hands on your belt | Stretch your neck so that your chin is parallel to the floor. Pull your head forward without changing the position of your chin. Turn your torso to the left, reaching your chin to your shoulder. Stand like this for 30 seconds and return to IP. Do the same steps, turning to the right. Perform at least 6 turns in each direction. |
5. Heron | Sit on a chair, keep your head straight, put your hands on your knees | Straighten your arms and move them back, while throwing your head back. Return to starting position. |
6. Review (complicated version) | Similar to the previous exercise | Place the palm of your left hand on your right shoulder and at the same time turn your head to the right. Keep your other hand motionless on your knee. Perform the same steps, turning to the left. Please note: while performing this exercise, you need to watch your elbow (it should be parallel to the floor). |
7. Fakir | Sit on a chair, raise your arms above your head, bend them slightly at the elbows. | Turn your head to the left all the way. Return to original position. Turn your head to the right all the way. Fix the position of the head at the extreme left and right points for several seconds. |
In order for Bubnovsky’s gymnastics to be as effective as possible, the following rules must be followed::
- For the first two weeks, practice every day. Then you need to consult a doctor to draw up a training plan. Typically, exercises are performed 8 times a month (2 times a week).
- It is recommended to do gymnastics in front of a mirror. This allows you to control the accuracy of your movements.
- While performing the exercises, you need to constantly monitor your posture. The back should be perfectly straight.
- The duration of the course of treatment using the Bubnovsky method is determined by a specialist in exercise therapy. Usually the course is about 3 months or more.
- If the patient suffers from chronic osteochondrosis and experiences an exacerbation of the disease, the treatment complex can be continued, but with extreme caution. Exercises should be performed smoothly, slowly, with less amplitude. If acute pain occurs, you should stop exercising and consult a doctor for examination and treatment adjustment.

Causes of the disease
The statistical studies carried out are inexorable: the disease osteochondrosis can affect every second person aged 25 to 55 years. What is the reason:
- lifting weights;
- frequent bending, extension, sharp turns of the body during work;
- incorrect body posture when a person stands, sits, lies, and also carries heavy loads;
- excessive loads during exercise in gyms;
- unfavorable climatic conditions (low air temperature with simultaneous high humidity).
Preparing for a massage
The massage is performed in two positions.
- The patient lies on a stable surface on his stomach with his arms extended along the body. Hands raised, head turned sideways towards the massage therapist.
- The patient sits in a sitting position. The face is facing the back of the chair. The arms are folded crosswise, the head is tilted upward. For convenience, you can place a small cushion under your armpits.
Having taken a comfortable position, you can begin the procedure. To do this, you must first visually divide the back into sections:
- The collar part is from the beginning of the skull to the upper edge of the scapula.
- The back is from the upper base of the shoulder blade to the outer rib.
- Lumbar region - from the last lower rib to the coccyx.
Rehabilitation for osteochondrosis, main methods and tasks
Main goals:
- Achieve relaxation of the nerve endings in the back.
- Prevent atrophy of the muscular system during bed rest, and also monitor the quality of breathing, blood circulation, metabolism and intestinal motility.
- Reduce the frequency of spasms of the paravertebral muscles.
- Bring the spinal area to normal working condition.
- Strengthen the abdominal and buttock muscles to distribute the load more evenly.
- To ensure that the most correct body position when sitting, standing, or during the work process acquires the status of a habit.
- Using manual therapy, ensure normal motor activity in problem areas of the spine.
Rehabilitation methods
Traction
With lumbar osteochondrosis, traction gives good results on the path to recovery. This can be pulsating, chair or gravitational traction.
With pulsating traction, the paravertebral muscles weaken and the intervertebral space increases. This way the load is slowly removed. The same effect is observed with chair traction. The main positive point is the reduction of pain symptoms.
Gravity traction is performed in the “upside down” position. In this case, the force of gravity of the body is used. During such traction, the pain intensifies due to the effect on the sciatic nerve. This procedure is used exclusively for patients with normal blood pressure and a healthy circulatory system.
Exercise therapy
After remission occurs, the patient is recommended to engage in physical therapy. Exercises used during the training process help strengthen the muscles of the back, abdominals, upper and lower extremities. You should not make sudden movements, jumps, bends, or lift weights.
Physical procedures
Physiological procedures give good results. One of these is an application with bischofite, a product of crystallization of salts from the waters of the Perm Sea. But in the acute phase of the disease such a procedure is contraindicated. Therefore, this method should be used only after consultation and under the strict supervision of a doctor. The positive effect of the procedure is observed in 70-80% of patients suffering from osteochondrosis.
Massage
After eliminating acute pain, massage methods can be used. In this case, the patient is placed face down on a hard surface and a pillow is placed under the stomach. It is necessary that the spine does not bend in the lumbar region.
Prevention
To avoid the development of this disease, you should always monitor your posture, lift and move weights correctly, exercise and follow a diet.

Contraindications for use
It is forbidden to do gymnastics according to Bubnovsky in the presence of acute diseases of the spine and back muscles. There are several contraindications to performing exercises according to Bubnovsky:
- postoperative period;
- oncological diseases;
- risk of stroke or heart attack;
- tendon or ligament ruptures.
Performing the complex in the cases described above is dangerous, because in certain situations, such activity can harm the body . Thus, in the postoperative period, tilting the head can lead to damage to previously injured tissues. Exercises for ligament ruptures are contraindicated because the patient may confuse the pain from the rupture with the discomfort that appears due to diseases of the spine, and not pay attention to it.
Before starting exercises, the patient should consult a specialist. Ideally, classes should be preceded by a consultation with a vertebrologist, as well as a comprehensive diagnosis : radiography of the cervical spine, Dopplerography of the neck vessels and, if necessary, computed tomography. This will prevent the problem from worsening if there are contraindications.
